Charades

Sunday, March 20th, 2011

I discreetly checked my wristwatch for the ninth time in the last forty five minutes. I’m being careful not to have my wife notice. I promised Kate I would be her loving husband today by taking her out to lunch and following her from one store to the next. I would much rather be at home, enjoying NBA on my flat screen, but this is just one of those tiresome tasks I signed up for when I married my lovely wife. If I had a genie, I would wish to have a twin who could carry all these shopping bags I’m supposed to guard with my life.
Kate was trying on a pair of black heels when I noticed a poor salesgirl hauling more shoes than she could carry. I began to feel weak when I realized the salesgirl was headed toward us. Then Kate beamed at me and unselfishly told me I could catch bits of the game from the huge flat panel at the electronics shop nearby while she tried on a few more pairs. I thought I heard angels singing. As I made my way to the electronics shop, I began to doubt my wife’s motive for getting me out of that last shoe store. Maybe she didn’t want me to see how much her shoes are going to cost us this time. But that’s something to argue about when the credit card statement comes in from the mail.
While I was watching the basketball game from outside the electronics store, a young lady handed me a flyer. I thanked her, and merely glanced at the piece of paper and made out massage stones. I brought my full attention back into the game. Before I knew it, the area where I stood had been filled with passersby catching the last half of the game. Soon it was over, and I was glad to be rooting for the winning team. As the crowd started to leave, Kate and all her oversized shopping bags appeared out of nowhere. Uh-oh. I quickly gave her the handout with massage stones written on it and took all the bags she was carrying. I knew then that I was in trouble.
Normally, I don’t lie to my wife, but from time to time, I concoct a few things here and there in order to please her. During the drive home, I tried to start a conversation by telling her how fascinated I was with the idea of using massage stones for healing. I didn’t get any type of reaction from her, so I kind of told her that I wanted us to try the massage stone therapy in the new spa the following day. I didn’t fully comprehend what I was getting myself into, but I think I caught a tiny smile and finally got her speaking to me again.

Because of my thoughtlessness, I found myself in the same place I had wanted to leave just the day before. But I realize that I was wrong to leave her with all her loot for what must have been a full hour. It’s a charming game of charades, what Kate and I go through. I know she dislikes how I and my buddies get deafening when we check out our ball games at home, nevertheless she constantly keeps a few six-packs cooled for all of us. She knows how much I dread shopping despite my effort to hide it. And of course, she knows I have no interest in massage stones. But that’s the beauty of it. We love each other, and it is the simplest reason why we go through these small sacrifices, every now and then.

Therapeutic Massage Stones: An Ideal Niche For Online Marketers

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

Coming up with profitable niches is probably the most challenging task for an Internet marketer.  Not only do they have to find a keyword that is in high demand, but they must also make sure that there aren’t too many competitors.  Well, if a person is interested in marketing to masseuses, perhaps their next niche should be massage stones.
Made of basalt rock or marble, massage stones enhance the massage experience, since the masseuse can apply heat or cold to the area.  In fact, massage stones are so beneficial, many masseuses charge extra if they are used during a session.  This is despite the fact that massage stones themselves are relatively inexpensive.
So, for the Internet marketer, trying to sell massage stones shouldn’t be too difficult.  The only real challenge they might have is finding affiliate programs offering these products.  Why?  Well, when it comes to online enterprises, there aren’t that many offering massage stones for sale.
But in some ways, that’s a good thing because it gives people a chance to dominate the market.  They will just have to be more proactive. One example is, instead of discovering an affiliate system to advertise, perhaps they could consider a diverse approach… selling the massage stones from their own site.
To do this, they will need to find a company offering massage stones for wholesale.  From there, they will probably need to purchase a certain amount in bulk, unless they can arrange dropshipping.  If it’s the latter, Internet marketers won’t have to buy anything upfront, since the retailer handles the shipping responsibilities.
Either way, once everything is setup, Internet marketers can begin promoting massage stones on their own, at whatever price they want.  In some cases, they could charge hundreds since massage stones don’t have as much competition.  Of course, they may have to market a little harder, but they will get more of a profit initially.

With over 30 years of stone sourcing experience, the founders of TIR Massage Stone, (Lawrence and Mark Turley), decided to apply their skills for the massage industry.  The result was phenomenal as they realized that thousands of masseuses all over the country were in need of their massage stones.  That’s why TIR Massage Stone continues to be the number one place to buy massage stones and other materials related to their use.  To learn more about TIR Massage Stone please visit: www.TirMassageStone.com.

Essential Stone Massage Products And The Proper Ways To Utilize Them

Sunday, January 2nd, 2011

Health spas nowadays are fully equipped with technological gadgets that promise the Zen feeling you want to achieve. Some offer a water massage therapy session, which subjects you to various intensities of jetting water onto your body. Others give you an oxygen therapy session, which gives you oxygen from digital pumps. This renews the cells and improves blood oxygenation and circulation. There are also spas that offer all kinds of enhanced body wraps salt wraps, mud wraps, seaweed wraps, fruit wraps which promise total rejuvenation of the inner and outer body.

Yet most people opt for more laid back and manual therapeutic approaches when it comes to relaxation. They consult their aches and pains in spas that offer healing of the both body and mind. These traditional spas deliver by providing an array of massages that fit the needs of the client. The therapists of these spas are very specialized in what they do and give the client what is necessary to achieve full relaxation.

These spas have various supplies, which they totally make use of in carrying out de-stressing procedures. Some use local fruits, oils, needles, stones, and their own hands and feet. The most therapeutic is the one with the hot stone massage kit. Although needles are said to be intensely therapeutic, its invasiveness make people think twice or thrice about having it performed on them.

A stone massage is a combination of the healing properties of the hot stones and the deep tissue work that the therapist provides. Here are some basic stone massage supplies that help you attain total healing and relaxation:
a.)    Massage table. This is essential in all types of massages. It is where the client lays down in supine or prone position. This is of just the right height so that it will be easy for the therapist to place the stones properly. It should be properly draped with soft, clean towels before the client comes in.
b.)    Towels. The towels really should be in contrast with the color of the stones which are used throughout the massage. This way, the therapist can keep a good eye on the stones while they are being placed and maintained on the body part. They should always be clean and replaced for each new client. Towels make it easy for the therapist to handle the hot stones. They are always within reach for the therapist to use.
c.)    Heating pot. Every complete hot stone massage kit has this. The heating pot is the essential part of the stone massage experience because without the heat, how could there be a hot stone massage? It is like an ordinary pot of water that heats up stones. It is filled with water up to a half an inch from the brim when the stones are placed. The therapist heats up the stones between 120 and 140 degrees for about 15 to 55 minutes in preparation for the client’s session.
d.)    Massage stones. Therapists use these stones to administer massage with heat. They also use these stones to concentrate the massage on trigger points on the client’s body. They usually use basalt stones but there are also marble and chakra stones for more specialized stone massages. The commonly used basalt stones are igneous in origin. They are very smooth and quite strong because they are made up of fine crystals. They also retain heat very well, especially the largest ones.
e.)    Ice bath. Massage therapists keep this handy for the immediate cooling down of stones and the client’s skin when the client finds the stones too hot for them to take. This prevents burns and gives immediate relief from too much heat.
f.)    Oils. The essential oils make it easy for the therapists to perform basic massage techniques such as Petri sage and Effleurage. These make the kneading and gliding motion of the hands and stones smoother and more relaxing.

Hot stone massages help the customers to really feel more rejuvenated than ever, after each session. Some people even find themselves cured of their ailments after this specialized massage. But there are tricks to each trade. And the ones that comprise the kit, really hit the spot.

Tips On Proper Massage Etiquette

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Massage is truly one of the best pleasures in life. The relaxation of body and mind brought about by the nurturing touch of another human being is indeed a nice way to take a breather from one’s daily stressors. When your boss is getting too hard on you or the household chores are piling up so high, going to a spa can save what’s little left of your priceless sanity.

Getting a massage is not only about finding the right place or therapist, or even booking the appointment. Just like any other activity, it also entails good manners and right conduct.

Here are some tips on proper massage etiquette:

  • Schedule your appointment in advance as much as possible. This will help the therapist or spa to create appointments efficiently and effectively.
  • After booking for an appointment, be sure not to miss it. Not showing up or canceling your appointment at the last second is very rude and disrespectful to the therapist. You’re not only wasting their time but also the opportunity for them to have other paying clients.
  • Arrive early, preferably 15 minutes early so you will have time to fill out some forms like contact information and health conditions, as well enjoy the facilities of the spa like sauna, steam bath or whirlpool.
  • Before you go into the session, be sure to discuss your preferences to the therapist. What type of music, room temperature or lighting would make you feel comfortable are some of the things you can talk to the therapist about. Although it’s all right to speak up even in the middle of the session, discussing prior to it is a better option so as not to interrupt the flow of the therapy.
  • It’s also a good idea to go to the bathroom before the therapy starts so that you don’t have to stand up in the middle of your session when nature calls.
  • When you go for a massage, it is very important that you don’t wear any perfume, scented anti-perspirants and hair sprays because you will be staying in an enclosed area and some therapists have allergic reactions to some of these products.
  • Turn off your cell phone before you arrive at the clinic or spa. Make sure you turn your cell phone and pager off before the session begins, it is rude to hear a phone ringing when you or the therapist have worked hard to get the mood and ambience right. This is your relaxation time, time to not worry about the outside world and just focus on yourself for a while.
  • Do not place lotion or moisturizer before you come in, this will only get in the way of the oils and lotions that the therapist was planning on using.
  • Take a shower or clean up before the session. Showing up all sweaty or dirty after a workout or some other rigorous activity is a rude thing to do.
  • Don’t feel like you are obligated to have a conversation with your massage therapist. If you would rather talk in your session, that is okay. If you would rather enjoy the massage in silence, the therapist will pick up on your cues and respect that.
  • Give your therapist a 10%-15% tip.
  • You will be allowed to have some time alone to cool down and relax after a session but don’t take advantage of it by taking a whole day nap.

Spas, clinics and therapists all work so hard to be able to provide you with a moment of relaxation that you are so in need of. Yes, you’re paying for their services but still, it’s only right that you give them proper respect and treatment.

Unique Ways On How To Celebrate Your Birthday On Your Own

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

Your birthday is probably one of the most awaited times of the year that you consider very special. Typically, you will celebrate it with your family and friends with a huge fun party. Unfortunately, some people may be away from their loved ones and stuck in spending their birthday on their own. These circumstances may include being away because of work or due to personal reasons. Whatever it may be, it does not mean that you will have a lonely birthday celebration.

There are so many things to do to make the most out of your special birthday. It really depends on you on how you want to enjoy yourself. You can have a hot stone therapy or just simply buy something that you’ve dying to have for some time. Your birthday is about celebrating everything in your life that is wonderful. It is about reflecting on the past year on what you have accomplished and recognizing how much you have grown in that amount of time. It is all about reflecting and appreciating what you have in your life right now. Here are some suggestions that will surely inspire you.

1. The very best way you can give yourself is the gift of time. Sometimes, you are so engrossed in everything happening in your life that you forget to provide the most important person quality time—yourself. Decide what you are in the mood for. Since everyone is different in their own way, everyone likes spending their birthday in their own unique way. If you want to spend the whole day celebrating, you can consider getting off work and plan the whole day.

2. Be adventurous. You should plan going out of town or a road trip to a nearby town. Avoid just going to the movie theater or window shopping. Do not waste your time, do something active. There are many ways to do this. You can just book one whole day at a nice hotel within driving distance if you do not have the time and expense to go on a vacation. Treat yourself a sumptuous lunch and spend the afternoon walking on the beach or strolling in an unfamiliar street.

If you’re a sports person, you can go hiking, biking, or camping. Be sure to let someone know where you are going in case there is an emergency. You don’t want to spend your special day getting lost do you?

3. Send yourself a card and buy yourself a present too. It is most likely this time that you will not receive any gifts or cards because you are far away from your loved ones. A few weeks or before your special day, find a card you love, sign it and write a simple note to yourself. This will surely make you smile when you receive it. If you are eyeing that expensive bag for a long time, consider buying it. A year’s of hard work deserves one day to spoil yourself.

4. If you feel that you are tired these past few months, you should consider spending your birthday on a spa. Get that much needed hot stone massage therapy to rejuvenate and refresh every cell in your body.

Spending your birthday on your own can also be pleasurable. You can still enjoy your birthday even if you are far away from your family and friends. The best part is being able to do something for yourself that you wouldn’t normally do or think about. So go ahead, come up with a special way to celebrate your birthday and you will definitely have fun doing it.

Different Ways To Experience Hot Stone Massage

Monday, September 6th, 2010

They say that finding an efficient, professional and trustworthy therapist is the key ingredient to having the best kind of hot stone therapy experience. While this is true, what most people do not know is that the recipient of the massage also plays a major role in making the session a blissful time. Yes, it is true, receiving a massage takes more than just lying down and waiting for the therapist to lay his or her hands on your body.

Here are some tips on how to ensure that you get to experience the wonderful wonders of hot stone massage:

  1. Prepare for your hot stone therapy. Be sure to drink lots of water and avoid eating a full meal before the therapy session. By eating a full meal, you will diminish the benefits of massage because you will feel bloated already. Drinking water on the other hand will help flush out the toxins that will be released from the clogged areas of your muscles.
  2. Read up on hot stone therapy. Knowing what to expect will make you more comfortable with the whole thing. Being self-conscious about your body will prevent you from being relaxed?” or “will the stones scald me?”
  3. Do not be late for your massage appointment. Arrive at the spa or holistic center 15 minutes earlier so you have time to unwind and enjoy the amenities of the center such as the whirlpool, steam bath or sauna.
  4. Discuss with the therapist any preferences that you may have in terms of lighting, music, room temperature or amount of pressure. If you feel the least uncomfortable about anything, do not hesitate to speak up.
  5. Clear your mind before the session. Relaxing is one effective way to enhance the benefits of the massage. You surely cannot enjoy the session if you are thinking about your deadlines at the office or any other stress-related thought.
  6. It is best not to wear perfumes or lotion during a therapy session because it will interfere with lotions for therapy.
  7. During the session, take slow and deep breaths. Try your best to relax your muscles since tensed muscles are more difficult to knead and manipulate.
  8. It is not required for you to engage in a conversation with the therapist. If this will enable you to relax more easily then go ahead but if you prefer to have the session quietly, the therapist will not mind.
  9. After a session, it is recommended that you do not leave the massage table immediately. You may still be a little light headed from the session. It is best to spend a few minutes to chill out.

The wonders of hot stone massage are countless. And with these helpful tips, you will surely get to experience them and have a wonderful massage therapy session.

Do It Yourself Hot Stone Massage Kit

Friday, July 16th, 2010

A massage is a treat that we usually only experience on special occasions. Most of us can only afford to have a massage a few times a year or maybe you’re lucky enough to get a gift of a massage session. If you’re anything like me, you could probably use a massage a lot more often! And even though there are several types of massage, if you have ever been exposed to the benefits of a hot stone massage, then you are probably hooked on this relaxing, stress relieving form of massage. Well don’t despair! The good news is that it is not that hard to create you own hot stone massage kit.

Of course, there are kits available online, and from certain natural health and healing stores, but do you really want to pay a premium for what essentially boils down to rocks and a crock-pot? Many of the online kits feature dozens of stone sizes for every possible body need. The truth is you can get the job done with far fewer stones.

Start by visiting a local quarry, a landscape company, or even your local riverbed. Kit rocks look polished and uniform, but any river rock works just as well. They are worn naturally smooth from years of running water. Choose stones that are flat and smooth and fit well in your hand. Two larger oval stones will be needed for the back and stomach area. Next, you’ll need about a dozen stones that are easy to fit in your hand. Try to select darker stones. Darker stones actually retain heat better than a lighter colored stone.

Next, you will need something to warm your stones in. A crock-pot or slow cooker works well as they can hold a consistent heat during the massage. You could also use a large pot with a lid on a hot plate. The warmer should be of a substantial size so it can hold all of the stones at once. It’s a good idea not to use the microwave to heat your stones as this has a tendency to cause burns.

Once you secure the stones and how to warm them you can focus on the accessories. You’ll want to have a slotted spoon or strainer handy to take your stones out of the warmer. If the warmer you are going with doesn’t have a temperature gage you will also need a food thermometer. The best temperature for your water is about 120-150 degrees. You’ll also want to have some sheets and light towels handy during the massage. Finally, to complete the relaxing experience it is nice to have soothing music, candlelight and some kind of aroma like lavender in the room.

That’s it. That’s your hot stone massage kit. There are a number of resources online that can direct you on the technique of giving a hot stone massage. With the hectic and stressful lives most of us lead having an outlet where we can unwind and rejuvenate is an extremely welcomed change of pace.

How You Can Give A Hot Stone Massage

Monday, July 12th, 2010

You don’t have to be a professional therapist to administer the relaxing, soothing relief of hot stone massage. The little or no pressure require makes it an easier techniques to master.

The practice of hot stone therapy dates back to

ancient time. Indian Yogis, Chinese dynasties, Roman gymnasiums and Turkish baths used hot stones to balance the body’s energy and for healing. In modern times people can believe what they want about healing powers and balancing energy. The simple fact is hot stone massage helps the body relax deeper and makes you feel great.

There’s no need to feel intimidated to give someone a hot stone massage. Just follow some basic set up and techniques and you’ll be fine. First, let’s talk about the stones themselves. These smooth stones are often basalt, which is a black volcanic rock. This type of stone is used for it’s exceptional heat retention. You can find stone kits online, but they are a little pricey. When it comes right down to it you can find the same thing down by the river. Professionals use 50 stones, but for your purposes 15-20 stones in varying sizes of flat and round will do the trick. Dark stones retain heat better than light colored stones, and obviously smooth stones feel better against the skin than porous ones.

It’s time for preparation after you’ve secured your stones. Spread a sheet or large towel out on the ground or bed. Have another one ready for cover with a few pillowcases or smaller towels nearby. Set a relaxing mood with candles and classical or new age music. The room itself should also be nice and warm.

Now it’s time to heat the stones. The stones need to be heated in water, so a large slow cookere is ideal for keeping a consistent heat. A large pot with a heating plate could also work. Place the stones in the pot and fill with water just until the stones are covered. Adjust the heat so the range is between 120-150 degrees. Let the stones warm in the water for about 20 minutes. Dry them after you pull them out, and have a bowl of cold water standing by in case they are too hot.

Preparation is over, now it’s time for the good part. Start the massage with the person on their stomach with a sheet over them. Place a stone on the upper part of the back to test the heat. If the heat is uncomfortable, place a pillowcase or light towel underneath. If the stone is too cool, place the stones directly on the skin. Arrange eight stones along the spine, and then place a large, flat stone right below the waistline.

While the stones on the back work their heated magic you can use stones to massage each of the person’s legs rubbing the stones in long, smooth strokes without using much pressure. Remember to always push outward toward the extremities. Stones should also be placed on the soles of their feet.

When the back massage is complete have the person turn over with their arms out with palms facing up. Massage the legs first using the same technique as the other side; you can place warm stones in their hands while massing the legs. Move the massage to the arms while the person is still holding the warm stones. Replace them if they have cooled. When done with the arms set aside the stones and use your hands to knead the shoulders, hands and fingers. Finally, apply oil to the top of their chest, and massage with warm stones, and finish the massage with a light scalp massage.

The experience should take about an hour with the benefits of rest, relaxation and rejuvenation lasting long after the stones have cooled.

The Benefits Of Stone Massage

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Do you suffer from pain in your lower back? Have you experienced anxiety, depression, exhaustion or migraines? Do you have muscle problems like cramps or spasm? If you suffer from any of these symptoms, you might give stone massage therapy a try.

Stone massage is one of the oldest type of medical therapy used on humans. It is a known fact that this type of massage has been utilized by ancient civilizations such as China, India, Egypt, Rome and Greece. Stones during those times were used for health and safeguarding purposes as well as for diagnosis and treatment of various diseases.

The massage stones differ depending on the part of the body being treated. For example, large stones are used to treat large areas of the body while the smaller stones are used for small spaces. The use of smooth and rough stones each have a distinct purpose. The Smooth ones are used gliding massage while the rough ones are used specifically for awakening the body part which is simply because it warms up the tissue and at the same time can exfoliate the skin. Pointed stones are also used to treat specific areas of the body.

The color of the stone is also important. The very dark ones can heat up faster and can hold heat longer. The gray ones are not so hot and can also cool down faster. The white stones are used for cold stone massage therapy. This means a stone massage can either be hot or cold. Which is then more beneficial?

The hot stone massage is a relaxing treatment that used heated stones of varying sizes which will be used to the different parts of the body. These hot stones give a deep massage and create a sensation of warmth and comfort. The heat generated from the stones gives a great feeling and is also therapeutic for it helps detoxify the body while it relaxes the nervous system.

The relaxation felt from the hot stone massage satisfy both physical and mental phase. It also reduces stress while it relieves the mental and physical fatigue. Blood circulation will also improve causing the increased blood supply which can help improve the body functions. Its detoxifying effects also quickly eliminate toxins and waste. Muscle and joint pains are also relieved while tension in the connective tissue is decreased.

A cold stone massage is a refreshing treatment that utilizes marble stones to alleviate swelling and soreness. It helps in refreshing the nervous system as well as stimulates the mind. It also eases tissue congestions and pacifies irritation. It also helps in cooling down the body during a warm day or when experiencing hot flushes.

Just like cars, our bodies also need a tune-up. Therefore regular massages can help ensure that both our body and mind remains in good condition. It’s really best if you can have regular massages at least once per month, twice would be better. Moreover, massage stones are stress busters that aside from helping to cure your ailments, it can also help prevent diseases. This is because it has been studied that most of the diseases in the world are related to stress.

Natural Stones To Heal The Body

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

A growing number of people are becoming more conscious of the connection between the environment and their health, from going “green” to buying organic foods, and now to using natural stones to heal the body.  Heated stones of different shapes and sizes are commonly used during a massage to help muscles release underlying tension and relax. It is a technique that works quicker at making muscles relax than massage alone.

Hot stone massage is a specialty form that combines the techniques of Swedish massage, or other forms of massage, with the soothing effects of smooth, natural stones gently heated by water.  When left to rest on the body, the heat from the stones penetrates the body, and warms and relaxes the muscles more quickly than massage alone.  Placing stones along the client’s spine, on top of the stomach, or in the palms are all techniques that therapists may use during a massage session.

Stones are used for several treatments, including deep tissue massage, facial treatments, and to place on chakra points (or energy centers) on the body. A black, volcanic rock called basalt is typically used for its ability to retain heat, but other kinds of stones, such as marble, are also used.To treat muscle injuries or inflammation cold stone such as marble can be used.  Besides common discomforts, such as muscle injury and back pain, hot stone massage is sometimes used to treat even more serious conditions such as paralysis and debilitating problems caused by strokes and heart attacks.  It’s important that therapists who use stone massage are properly trained and have experience practicing the technique.Injury may occur if using the wrong amount of pressure during the session or if the stones are too hot causing burns.

Using stones to treat the body is an ancient technique practiced by several cultures dating back to ancient times.  In Asia, hot stone massage was used for therapeutic reasons, and Native Americans used stones in sweat lodges.Native Americans value the hot stones so much they began calling them ‘Grandfather Stones.”  Hawaiians used stones for similar purposes as Native Americans, although they used the lava stones called “pohaku” that were more abundant on the islands.  Historical records indicate that hot and cold stones were used by many ancient cultures for a multitude of reasons, including easing pain during labor and childbirth, detecting diseases, and to ward off evil spirits.

In the early 1990’s, Hot Stone Massage was introduced in the US.  One of the first people to use it was massage therapist Mary Hannigan, who created a popular technique called LaStone Therapy.  Although acupuncture and other therapies are generally more common than stone therapy, hot stone massage is a technique that is revered for its therapeutic abilities.  In addition to being offered by qualified massage therapists, now many companies make hot stone massage therapy available by selling massage kits and instructional materials for home use.Massage stones are a proven method to assist in healing the body when used properly.
