Various Reflux Diets
Reflux diets are suggested for people that have acid reflux disease due to high acid levels in the stomach. Diets targeted to the reflux sufferer will decrease acid levels which in turn will reduce heartburn. The main cause of reflux disease is diet, although other things may contribute. Most people have suffered heartburn at one time or another in their lifetime, while others may constantly suffer from it. Symptoms are usually easily recognized and include vomiting, nausea and a burning sensation, otherwise referred to as heartburn.
Reflux Diet Suggestions
People come up with their own variations of diets to follow to help relieve the symptoms of reflux disease. Most diets recommend which foods to avoid and which foods are okay to consume. Avoiding the high risk foods is recommended. Foods such as citrus fruits and other high acid foods which increase acid levels in the stomach should be avoided. Most people with reflux disease will know what they can and cannot eat from past eating experiences.
Some versions of diets simply highlight the foods that may be eaten without fear of heartburn or other symptoms. A few examples of foods that are safe to consume would be green vegetables and fruits, low fat milk, cereals and other whole grain food. The only drawback to these diets are that they normally do not include a list of foods to avoid. Knowing which foods to avoid can play a huge role in dietary habits.
Sometimes people debate over what should and should not be consumed such as coffee or smoking cigarettes. Beverages containing caffeine have been proven to increase chances of aggravating acid reflux disease symptoms. Avoiding caffeine is recommended for most people. Developing a unique diet plan will come with time and experience as each person learns what they can and connot eat.
Consulting with your regular doctor will also help in figuring out a suitable diet. Obviously avoiding foods that are known to aggravate reflux symptoms should be avoided so as not to suffer the consequences. Many people will suffer acid reflux symptoms in order to enjoy a food they love. Keep in mind this is entirely up to the person. Making a diet plan a part of daily lifestyle will eventually become habit and easy to follow. Some foods avoided by those suffering from acid reflux would be considered unhealthy by many, so in essence a healthier diet is the result. Even people that do not suffer reflux symptoms could benefit from avoiding the foods that cause others to have heartburn.
