Personal Trainers Find Satisfaction At Work

The field of personal training is expanding at about the same rate as American waistlines.  Obesity is a serious and growing problem among average Americans.  As medical research links more health risks, like heart disease, hypertension and stroke to even moderate obesity, more Americans are trying to improve their health by getting fit.  Some companies have even opened employee fitness centers in an effort to improve their employees’ health and reduce the cost of health insurance.

As a certified personal trainer, you will have many opportunities for jobs in your field.  You can chose to work as an entrepreneur, or you can can chose to work for a spa, gym or corporate fitness center.  Trainers work not only  to improve the client’s level of fitness, but to improve their diet and health habits.

Personal trainers require some knowledge of medical conditions because they may need to work with clients whose diet or physical activity is restricted by a chronic health issue.

It is important to understand any medical conditions an individual may be have.  If a client suffers from a chronic health complaint, they may have special nutritional requirements and physical limitations.  It isn’t unusual for someone to wait until they have a health issue to deal with their obesity.  The trainers programs are created for each client and being aware of the needs of clients with medical issues is important.  It may be necessary for you to check with a client’s doctor before initiating their fitness plan.

In order to become a certified personal trainer, you will have to train in each of these areas.  You may chose to attend a college for an associates degree, or a training course for certification.  The time and effort spent in training is well worth it.  Personal trainers can make up to $40.00 per thirty minute session.  They can make their own hours.  There is no shortage of potential clients, and this field is booming despite the current recession.

If you are considering a career as a personal trainer, you should look into the available training programs.  Understand that you will require some business training if you intend to be an independent trainer and not work for someone else. Finding clients, advertising, bookkeeping and other skills may be necessary.

Anyone who believes this is the career opportunity they are looking for should look into the available degree and certification programs and decide which program best serves their needs.  If you plan to be an independent trainer, you will also need some basic business skills, so programs that include business courses are probably best for you.
