Is an ab machine really worth it?

I’m certain there’s  numerous potential customers watching ab machine commercials who are curious as to whether the machines featured on television actually give results. Part of this, I am sure, stems from the fact that there are late night infomercial pitch men pushing all sorts of hard to believe gadgets.

Some of their tactics are so outrageous, the really turn me off. Here’s a tip, not every machine is effective;  some are worthless and will not provide any benefit for your abdominal muscles. While you can find good equipment in some cases, you have to wade through the hype to really find the machine that will work well for you.

For those who don’t know much about ab machines, here’s a good resource to help you understand some of the ab equiment options.

Any piece of equipment must target the ab muscles specifically to be of maximum benefit.  A way equipment can be of assistance is to provide you the ability to intensely focus on your various abdominal muscles much more than say crunches or sit ups. Crunches are great for your rectus abdominals, those muscles that layer over your midsection. Yet, you must still concentrate on the obliques, lower abdominal muscles, and transverse abdominal muscles, if you want a complete ab workout.

These muscles all require their own unique exercises with appropriate angles To make sure you get the best ab workout, you need to hit all of these muscles. You don’t have to worry about doing an exercise for each muscle every  workout, rotate the exercises and you will ensure that you do hit each one.

This is where an ab machines can come in handy and provide that variety you need. As a bonus, their use can also improve your movement. For example, a way in which they improve the exercise is to provide additional resistance. Some pieces of equipment do this through added weight, some do this by forcing you to get in a position that places more applied body weight to the movement.

I’ve found that people are more likely to work on their abs, if they’ve got the equipment handy. Variety provides mental advantages, as well as physical advantages. Generally, when people follow the same routine day in and out, focusing on one or two exercises, this gets old fast. They’ve got a tendency to shorten their workouts and not pay much attention to the form. However, a variety of exercises reenergizes people. This inevitably means that they have better workouts and better results..

After all of this, I came to realize that the use of an ab machine can actually help to build those ab muscles. But, you do have to put the time in if you want to see results.
