Heart Monitor Watch and Your Resting Heart Rate
It is quite easy to determine what your RHR is. If you have a heart monitor watch it will do this for you., but you can also do this manually. To manually check your RHR, just lay the top of your index, second, and third fingers on the palm side of your other wrist, just below where your thumb meets your wrist. (This sounds more complicated than it is, but focus and give it a try).
To know and understand how your heart is doing, either during your daily routine, or when exercising, you have to have a starting point, this is know as your RHR. RHR stands for resting heart rate. Simply put, this would be considered your normal heart beats per second, or when you are tranquil and not under any physical or mental pressure.
It is quite easy to determine what your RHR is. If you have a heart monitor watch you can use it for this, but you don’t one. Checking your RHR can be done manually, just lay the top of your index, second, and third fingers on the palm side of your other wrist, just below where your thumb meets your wrist. (This sounds more complicated than it is, but focus and give it a try).
Press very gently on that area and you will soon feel your pulse. If you can’t feel anything then you are not doing it correctly, or you have unfortunately passed away. Now with a watch or clock beside you, observe the minute hand, and count how many times your heart beats in 1 minute. To make it easier, just count how many times your heart beats in 10 seconds and multiply that by six to translate that figure into your RHR. You do have to be calm and peaceful when you perform this check. Lie down, relax and then start counting.
Remember that anxiety, worry, poor health and height above sea level can influence your pulse. So it is best to do a pulse check several times over a few days to get an accurate reading.
Using a heart monitor watch makes this exercise a lot easier, it is just the click of a button, but now you know it’s not rocket science and you don’t need one to perform this task.
